Thrive sessions

Our Thrive sessions are delivered to students four times a week. They are 30 minute sessions that focus on personal development. The ultimate aim of Thrive is to help students achieve their full potential and helps them to develop the skills they need to stay safe, healthy and make responsible decisions.

Thrive helps students to better understand the world around them and learning encourages tolerance, compassion and empathy. Our students develop better communication and listening skills, and gain confidence, all of which prepares them for their future and gives them the knowledge protect both their own and others’ wellbeing.

Our Thrive programme and your wellbeing

We believe that every interaction is an opportunity to develop the good character of our students and that is why we deliver a character curriculum that provides dedicated time where we help students to strengthen their resilience, self-esteem and confidence

Personal, social, health and economic education

During dedicated enrichment time, our students follow a personal, social, health and economic education (PSHE) programme of study that explores three themes ‘Sex, Relationships, and Society’, ‘Careers, Finance, and Independence’ and ‘Health and Wellbeing.

Our students experience a structured approach to PSHE through our pastoral programme where global themes and cultures are explored. Citizenship and British Values form part of this study programme and students learn about different faiths and cultures.

Our school assemblies programme also closely follows cultural events, ensuring that students are kept up to date with relevant social, cultural and spiritual events.

Personal, social, health and economic education helps to prepare our students for the wider world.

Our character curriculum and core values are taught through our assemblies, tutor time, external guest speakers and our Thrive programme. Thrive is the school’s opportunity to support students to manage their physical, emotional and mental health through our teaching of the subjects in the table below.

Citizenship Developing the understanding and skills that students need to play a full part in our democratic society, as active and responsible citizens. It involves learning about the fundamentals of democracy, politics, parliament and voting.
Relationships, sex and health education (RSE) Ensuring our students learn about and have the information they need to help them develop healthy, nurturing relationships of all kinds. RSE is about the emotional, social and cultural development of pupils, and involves learning about relationships, sexual health, sexuality, healthy lifestyles, diversity and personal identity. It involves a combination of sharing information, exploring issues and values. RSE is not about the promotion of sexual activity.
Beliefs and world views Students explore the values, beliefs and ideas that bind people together including the different religious traditions and beliefs across the world.
Wellbeing and mental health Good mental health and wellbeing helps children and young people to develop, attend school, engage in learning and fulfil their potential. Our Thrive programme contributes to our students’ wellbeing by providing a safe, calm and supportive learning environment and early targeted support for those who need it.
Careers advice and guidance Our Careers, Education, Information, Advice and Guidance programme supports our students to identify their future aspirations by exploring potential progression routes and help them to make informed decisions that affect their future education, training, and employment opportunities.
Cultural capital Our Thrive programme builds our students social and cultural knowledge and provides them with the opportunity to learn about cultural awareness and competence.
Personal, social, health and economic education Our students develop the knowledge, skills and attributes they need to manage their lives, now and in the future and learn skills to help them to stay healthy, safe and prepare them for life and the world of work.
E-safety Young people are growing up in an increasingly complex world, living their lives seamlessly on and offline and this can present many positive and exciting opportunities, but also challenges and risks. Our Thrive programme ensures our students understand how to stay safe and behave appropriately online.
