Our Heads of Year
Our Heads of Year are the core pastoral support and central point of contact for our students and their families. They ensure the best possible educational experience for our students whilst being the conduit for student mental health and wellbeing support.
Alongside the rest of Kingsmeadow Community School, they promote positive learning behaviours linked to our core values of integrity, resilience and respect.
I am proud to be Head of Year 7 at Kingsmeadow Community School. I have been a part of Kingsmeadow since 2011 and in that time I have gained a lot of experience working within the local community.
The transition from primary to secondary school can be both an exciting and challenging time, but I am looking forward to working with parents and carers to support our students, ensuring they achieve the very best they can.
Mr Thompson, Head of Year 7
As the Head of Year 8, I am dedicated to building a warm and engaging atmosphere that supports both academic growth and personal development. My passion lies in creating an environment where every student feels valued and inspired to shine. I aim to cultivate resilience, respect, and integrity while enhancing communication skills among our students.
By building strong relationships with students, parents, and staff, I hope to empower each student to embrace their unique journey and grow into confident, responsible individuals. Together, we can create a positive setting that encourages them to seize every opportunity that comes their way!
Mrs Taylor, Head of Year 8
As Head of Year 9, I play a crucial role in supporting our students’ academic and personal development. I promote positive behaviour, attendance and wellbeing to ensure that all of our students have the opportunity to succeed on all levels. Creating a positive learning environment and offering tailored guidance to individuals allows our students to thrive.
Kingsmeadow’s core values of integrity, respect and resilience should be at the heart of all of our actions and I sincerely hope that every Year 9 student becomes the best version of themselves as they take the next step in their academic journey.
Mrs Diston, Head of Year 9
As Deputy Head of Key Stage 4, my vision is to create a supportive and ambitious environment at Kingsmeadow where every student feels valued, motivated, and equipped to achieve their potential.
I am committed to mentoring students so they can build confidence, resilience, and a positive approach to learning. Through targeted support and guidance, I aim to ensure that barriers to achievement are identified early and addressed effectively. I will continue to foster strong relationships with staff, students, and families, promoting high expectations and celebrating success.
Ultimately, my goal is to empower students with the skills, knowledge, and mindset to thrive both academically and personally, achieving success at Kingsmeadow and beyond.
Mrs Clay, Deputy Head of Key Stage 4
I am really excited to support Year 10 as they begin their journey into GCSE study. I am here to offer guidance, consistency, and emotional support. I’ve worked in a pastoral role for over 10 years which enables me to identify emerging issues early and respond effectively.
I look forward to mentoring the students through academic and personal challenges, liaising with home, and collaborating with teachers to ensure holistic support.
I am hoping my presence provides a sense of stability, builds trust and creates a positive learning environment. By modelling respectful relationships and resilience, I am wanting to help students navigate Year 10 with confidence and responsibility.
Mr Charlton, Head of Year 10
As Head of Year 11, I feel incredibly proud to support our students through such a critical and exciting year in their academic journey. My aim is to help every young person feel confident, motivated, and ready to take their next steps, whatever route they decide to take.
I do this by working comprehensively with staff, families, and students to make sure each individual learner is supported, challenged, and encouraged in this crucial year, helping improve their outcomes and future prospects.
Miss Hornsby, Head of Year 11
“I am passionate about supporting our students to achieve success in whatever way each individual defines that: whether it’s onto university or onto a higher level apprenticeship or even onto the world of work.
“At Kingsmeadow, we firmly believe that all students are entitled to the best education and thrive on building strong relationships with the students: helping them to produce their best external outcomes but also helping them shape their character so that they are successful in their chosen post 18 pathway.
“I am really proud to have been a part of the educational journey of our students and helping them develop into highly motivated independent learners who are demanding in their expectations for progression and who achieves the outcomes for their next steps.”
Mrs Rafferty, Head of Sixth Form
“I’m very proud to be the Assistant Head of Sixth Form, and alongside teaching Spanish, I really enjoy supporting students both pastorally and academically as they progress through their A Levels and AAQ qualifications.
“Working with the Sixth Form team, I help provide guidance and encouragement to ensure every student can achieve their best. I’m also actively involved in organising enrichment opportunities, including leading our exciting World Challenge Trips.
“My door is always open — no question is too big, or too small — so please don’t hesitate to come and see me.”
Miss Andrews, Assistant Head of Sixth Form
