Safeguarding
We take the health and wellbeing of our students very seriously and proud that safeguarding has a high profile in our school with everyday practices supporting our commitment to keep our students safe.
Our staff receive regular safeguarding training. They have the skills and knowledge to spot concerns and know how to report these when appropriate. We do not promise confidentiality to any young person and, where possible, always share concerns with parents or carers so we can work closely to address the problem or issue.
The school’s Safeguarding Lead is Mrs Richardson, supported by Mrs Byrne in the Safeguarding Team, the Heads of Key Stage 3 and 4 – Mrs Lowery and Mrs Robson, and Mrs Bell in the Sixth Form.
If you are concerned about your child or another young person, please do not hesitate to contact the safeguarding team at safeguarding@kingsmeadow.org.uk or phone 0191 460 6004.
Child friendly safeguarding information
The ‘Working Together to Safeguard Children’ document has been published by the UK Government and is made especially for children and young people.
It is a guide for all the different people who should work together if a child needs help. It explains what is expected of them, and what they have to do to make sure they are listened to. It also tells them how they can help a child to understand what help and support they can get.

Our Pastoral support
Provided across all levels of the Kingsmeadow team, one-to-one support helps our students to grow and flourish, and our pastoral provision ensures they feel welcome, inspired and supported.
Central to our pastoral system is the frequency and quality of communication between the school and home. Early intervention plays a key role in preventing problems and the escalation of issues. It is also essential in establishing agreed solutions.
The school’s Support Zone Team is the first point of contact for any student referrals. Based upon medical or behavioural needs of the student, the team determines how individual circumstances are managed. The Support Zone Team also provides on-call support to staff and conducts regular walks around the school to ensure students adhere to our Behaviour Policy and Written Statement of Principles.
Mrs Richardson has the overall responsibility for work of the Pastoral Team. She also has an overview on all student matters and ensures that Year groups 7 to 11 uphold the school’s standards.
