Year 12 and 13 students
BTEC Level 3 National Extended Certificate in Child’s Play, Learning and Development
This two-year programme builds upon the skills acquired at GCSE Level and introduces a study of the sector. It is intended as an Applied General qualification and is equivalent in its extent to one A Level. The qualification has been designed in consultation with employers and professional bodies to provide a course that is appropriate for those interested in working in the sector. As well as classroom-based study, learners will complete 50 hours of work experience in an early-years setting of their choice.
The course comprises of four units, two of which are externally assessed in May of Year 12, and two internal assessments during Year 13). The topics covered throughout this study are:
- Children’s development
- Communication and numeracy
- Play and learning
- Physical development, care, and health needs.
