Science
Our science studies forge positive connections with pupils, so they achieve independence, self-confidence and scientific academic knowledge. In science we aim to develop resilient, well-rounded students, who can adapt in an ever-changing world by linking the science curriculum to relevant real-world experiences.
Year 7, 8 and 9 students
Science is split into distinct subjects: Biology, Chemistry and Physics and students follow an interwoven science curriculum in which they revisit the same topics from different perspectives in a single academic year. This is continued each year for students to return to topics and improve their depth and breadth of knowledge. Students are also introduced to new skills through practical laboratory work. Year 7 students receive a practical introduction on how to work safely in a laboratory and they build upon these skills each year to become more self-reliant by the end of their studies.
Year 10 and 11 students
Biology, Chemistry, and Physics are core subjects and compulsory for all pupils at Key Stage Level 4. Students use the practical skills learned in Years 7 to 9 and these help them to describe, explain and analyse practical activities that are compulsory at GCSE level, some of which are questions that are asked in the exam.
