Computing – Years 7, 8 and 9

Our Key Stage 3 Computing curriculum offers an exciting introduction to the digital world, with students taught one hour per week to explore Cryptography, Networks, Python programming, Algorithms, and Cyber Security. They also investigate global influences of technology while developing creative skills in animation, graphic design, and website creation. Engaging activities in Computational Thinking foster strong problem-solving abilities, preparing students for future challenges in Business and Computing.

GCSE Business – Years 10 and 11

In Business Studies we aim to enable every student to leave school with an accredited qualification. We strive to reduce the attainment gap between groups of students by making the effective use of data to inform teaching and learning by constantly developing our skills as a teaching team. All staff have up-to-date knowledge and understanding of our subject and working as a team allows us to help our students to reach their full potential. Our curriculum contextualises learning through the use of real-life situations and problem solving scenarios.

Students following the Key Stage 4 Business Studies can gain an accredited qualification whilst studying a variety of key concepts that will prepare them for their working life.

GCSE Computer Science and iMedia – Year 10

In Year 10 students have the option to choose to study a Level 2 qualification in either iMedia Cambridge Nationals or GCSE Computer Science.

Students studying iMedia will have the opportunity to understand how technology is used in the media industry in an ever-changing world. The course combines a wide range of both practical and theoretical elements. The course includes two pieces of coursework (60%) and one terminal examination (40%). The topics covered include the following components:

  • IT in the Media Industry (examination)
  • Characters and comics creation (coursework)
  • Digital graphic creation (coursework)

Students studying GCSE Computer Science consists of two terminal examinations. The GCSE in Computer Science will be graded 9-1. The following topics are taught over the two-year period:

​Computer systems, systems architecture, memory, storage, wired and wireless networks, network topologies, protocols and layers, system security, system software, ethical, legal, cultural and environmental concerns and computational thinking (including programming).​
