Our Sixth Form challenge had a great day at the Climate Challenge Event.
In the Future of Energy workshop they met Northern Gas where they built hydrogen powered model cars. The also learned about the Wild Oyster Project and how oysters can reduce carbon and protect our coastline.
In the Climate Chaos workshop our students enjoyed an escape room style session, where they solved STEM challenges and in the Mini Careers Fair they had the opportunity to chat one-to-one with presenters and employers.
Meanwhile, in school, we played host to a rare piece of engineering equipment, one of only a few available in the UK. The 13-metre cable-stay bridge gave students a hands-on teaching tool and a fantastic opportunity to learn about civil engineering project management, health and safety, and quality assurance.
Thanks to our partnership with UK construction and civil engineering company Sir Robert McAlpine we are further promoting Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) skills and inspire the next generation of civil engineers.
STEM integrates a group of subject areas into a holistic approach to learning and problem-solving. Our students that took part in the STEM exercise thoroughly enjoyed the hands-on opportunity to work with specialised equipment.
