Kingsmeadow Community School is celebrating the success of two its students who have each received recognition by Newcastle’s Lit & Phil in the Young Writers Awards.
The competition was based on the theme of ‘My favourite place’. Year 10 student Mia wrote a non-fiction piece named Alton Towers: a place of wonder, and Wanya in Year 8 wrote a fictional piece called The Library of Wonders.
Miss Graham, Teacher of English said: “I am unbelievably happy for everyone who took part in this competition, especially because the judges were massively impressed with the quality of work from our school. Our Creative Writing Club members inspire me every single day with their incredible sense of creativity and imagination. They have such a beautiful way with words that are capable of making me both laugh and cry and I am so, so proud of their commitment and talent.”
Mr Barrett, Headteacher said: “The Lit & Phil is such an iconic institution, something of which the whole region should be proud. To have two Kingsmeadow Community School students winning runners-up prizes in the Young Writer Awards this year makes me proud as their head teacher. Mia and Wanya have both demonstrated excellent effort and sheer joy in their creative writing.”
