Students from Kingsmeadow Community School showed off their strong problem-solving abilities and creative mathematical thinking at a recent competition where they competed with students from other North East schools.

The competition, led by the UK Maths Trust, an organisation made up of mathematicians and maths experts, saw students from fifteen schools compete against each other to prove their mathematical prowess by solving numerical puzzles.

Miss Towler, Teacher of Maths said: “At Kingsmeadow we instil a love of maths with our all of our students, helping them to enjoy the subject and the problem solving that comes with it. We do this through our day to day teaching, our own in-class challenges and by taking part in competitions. Our students jumped at the chance to take part in the local UK Maths Trust competition, and held their own whilst competing in multiple rounds of puzzles and challenges.

Mr Barrett, Headteacher said: “I am always proud to see our students representing Kingsmeadow Community School at so many different events and competitions. We may be the smallest secondary school in Gateshead, but I believe we are one of the most active. Our students in the UK Maths Trust challenge performed incredibly well and were a credit to the school.”
