Kingsmeadow Community School in Dunston is celebrating national recognition following its award of a School Games Silver Mark from the Youth Sport Trust, the UK’s leading children’s charity for the improvement, education and development of every child through play and sport.

The school is delighted to have been recognised for its success, especially for its PE Department that works very hard to develop students’ skills and awareness to allow them to perform highly in physical activities and lead healthy, active lifestyles.

Mr Hardman, Faculty Leader of Sport and Performance said: “I am delighted that we have achieved this award. It is a testament to the hard work and dedication to providing students with as many sporting opportunities as possible.

“Over the last 12 months, every student in school has taken part in our intra-school activities; had access to a wide range of sports via their PE lessons; and the opportunity to contribute to the planning the PE curriculum. In addition having the opportunity to take part in at least 30 minutes of physical activity every day – alongside two hours of PE lessons each week, our ‘student led leadership’ has seen our students transition from leading a warm-up in their PE lesson, to working with our local primary schools and giving these students a fantastic experience of secondary school PE and Sport.”

Mr Barrett, Headteacher said: “Kingsmeadow Community School is committed to developing sporting opportunities within the school and community. I am delighted that the school has received this award as recognition of that. It celebrates the dedication of the staff who create these opportunities and the willingness of the students to get involved in enjoying the sports we offer.”
