Year 11 student Olivia tumbled her way to winning Gold at the Scottish Gymnastic Championships in Dundee last weekend.
Olivia came out on the top spot in the female 15-16 years old category which follows another recent success when she competed in the Tumbling French Cup in Sevran, France, being placed fourth out of 45 gymnasts from around the world.
Requiring great strength, agility, and endurance, Tumbling is the execution of acrobatic movements such as rolls, twists, handsprings, or somersaults on the ground, without the help of any equipment.
Olivia said: “The opportunity to attend an international competition and compete with gymnasts at the same level from around the world has been fantastic. I’m so proud to represent Scotland, my father’s home nation and doing something I love.”
Olivia’s father said: “Competing at an international level is a wonderful opportunity for Olivia, but to win Gold on my home turf is pretty special.”
Having a place on Scotland’s national squad is down to Olivia’s hard work, determination and by training five times a week.
Mr Fox added: “Reaching the world championships is Olivia’s dream but as a family we work together to make sure that school, and the upcoming exams and revision take priority.”
Mr Barrett, Headteacher said: “We at Kingsmeadow Community School couldn’t be prouder of Olivia and her achievements. She is a shining example of what our students are capable of with determination and effort. And all of this whilst being a model student who is utterly focussed on her learning and her exams! She embodies our core values of Resilience, Respect and Integrity. Well done, Olivia.”
