We were delighted to welcome local parents, carers and year 5 and 6 students to our open evening on Wednesday 17 September. Our guests enjoyed a huge amount of activities , and they had a great time touring our wonderful school.

Many of our Team Kingsmeadow students volunteered to take guests on personal tours of the school. Thank you to them and to our fabulous teaching team for helping to create a fantastic event.

Three of our students also volunteered to talk to our guests to offer their own personal views on life at Kingsmeadow. They each delivered a great speech, and here is what they said.

“I’m a year 8 student here at Kingsmeadow.  I would say one of the best things about Kingsmeadow school is the staff and the students who are friendly and supportive.  Everyone works together to demonstrate our core values: respect, resilience and integrity.  Because we are one of the smallest secondary schools in Gateshead it is easy to feel part of the. welcoming Kingsmeadow community

“In our lessons we are encouraged to think hard and work independently, but we are also given plenty of opportunities to discuss our ideas and work in pairs or groups.

“I also value our student ambassador programme as it allows us to develop and demonstrate leadership skills.  There is one student ambassador for every form class in years 7 to 10.  We also get the opportunity to help out at evenings and events like this one.

“During lunchtime I enjoy going to the school’s gaming club, other students go to play football on the astro pitch or take part in basketball.  There are also enrichment opportunities for visits outside of school such as the Spanish and sporting trips to Barcelona and the computing/IT trip to Disneyland Paris. We also have visitors who come into school to speak to us regularly about careers and universities to allow us to help plan for our future.”

“At Kingsmeadow every student is valued and encouraged to work towards success both academically and in developing our characters.

“Our Thrive programme allows us to explore and discuss real world issues that matter to us as young people and I really value our wellbeing Wednesday sessions where we consider strategies for good mental health and wellbeing.

“There are loads of extra curricular opportunities to get involved in after school or lunchtime.  In year 7 I did drama club and girls football and this year I’m doing girls rugby.  There are lots of sporting competitions throughout the year and we sometimes compete against one another in form classes, like with dodge ball.  Our music department has regular extra curricular clubs and puts on some amazing shows throughout the year.  You can also get involved in things like creative writing or our student book club.   I’ve made lots of new friends since coming to Kingsmeadow last year, many of which I met through doing different clubs.

“The pastoral team at Kingsmeadow help us feel safe and secure and there is always someone you can talk to.  You spend time with your tutor every day and they let you know what’s going on in school that day or week.  I’m pleased I came to Kingsmeadow school.”

Fearne SYear 12

“I’ve just finished my 5 years of secondary school and ended it with GCSE grades ranging from 6s to 9s.  These are grades I never thought I’d achieve, and I wouldn’t have without the constant support and encouragement from the staff here at Kingsmeadow.  This school will always go above and beyond to make sure every child achieves their potential and then some.

“The motivation that my peers and I were given last year was the reason we achieved the highest set of GCSE results the school has seen.  The rewards students get – whether it be end of year trips, half term prizes, prom, or the general gratification you feel after performing well ensures that we are constantly working hard, while also getting the praise and recognition we deserve.

“I can still remember how daunting it felt transitioning from primary to secondary school.  However, I can honestly say that my time at Kingsmeadow has been some of the best years, and will continue to be during my A levels. This would not have been the case if it wasn’t for the family-like community that myself, my peers and the staff have created over the 5 years I have been here. “

Choosing Kingsmeadow means that the continuation of your school life will not only be unforgettable, but will also guarantee academic success and enjoyment due to the desire that you will have to work hard and the help of our supportive and amiable members of staff.
