Turning student voice into positive change

Our Student Ambassadors play a vital role in shaping our school community. They act as a bridge between students and staff, ensuring that our student voices are not only heard but taken seriously. By listening to their peers and representing their views, Student Ambassadors help initiate important discussions and contribute to meaningful changes that benefit the whole school.

One of the most challenging parts of their role is identifying and addressing areas of change or improvement within the school. These are often complex issues that require careful thought, collaboration, and persistence. Whether it’s improving communication, supporting inclusivity, or enhancing everyday student experiences, our Student Ambassadors work hard to advocate for change.  Below is a list of their current projects.

Modeshift Active Travel programme

With support from the Modeshift Active Travel Coordinator and school staff, the Active Travel Ambassador team are researching and developing a behaviour change campaign that focuses on improving bus travel for Kingsmeadow students.

In March 2026 the team will be pitching their ideas to a panel of industry experts, when they hope to secure up to £250 to deliver their campaign.

Kingsmeadow Culture Day

To celebrate the diverse range of cultures in our school community, our leadership ambassadors are working on plans for an annual Kingsmeadow Culture Day. With support from staff and the senior team, the ambassadors are canvassing student- voice to help develop a proposal for the event that is planned to take place during the summer 2026 term.

Children North East – Poverty Proofing

Other members of our ambassador team are working with Children North East on a project that will further ensure our young people feel a genuine sense of belonging within the school and wider community. This links to the current poverty proofing work that the school is already involved in.

As part of the programme our ambassadors will receive bespoke, accredited training and play a key role in co-designing the future work of Children North East.

Kingsmeadow Eco-Garden

Our Student Ambassadors have secured funding from Equans, the school’s facilities management partner, to develop an eco-garden in the school grounds. This space will be designed to feature a range of flowers, plants, vegetables and hopefully a water feature. Our ambassadors will oversee every stage of the project including its design, build, upkeep and maintenance.

School buddy system for new students

Our Student Ambassadors are also leading on work that ensures new students joining Kingsmeadow have a named buddy to help them adapt to their new school environment.  Buddy’s will help new students learn the layout of our school, tell them who they can speak to for advice, and help them get used to our school routines.

Supporting school events

So far this year, Our Student Ambassadors have supported and represented the school at the following events:

  • Year 5 and 6 open evening
  • Parent and carer coffee mornings
  • Governor learning walks
  • Kingsmeadow student voice meetings
  • Interviewing candidates for new roles at the school
  • Presenting at the annual Governor’s conference
