Sociology
Sociology study focuses on people and their behaviour. It opens discussion about the relationships between groups of people in society and explores issues of identity, inequality, and power. Throughout the course students improve their skills in research, analysis, and critical reasoning.
Years 9, 10 and 11
Study includes a combination of core and optional topics delivered over a three year course that follows the EDUQAS GCSE Sociology qualification.
Sociology studies foster an understanding and critical awareness of the social world, social issues, and the importance of social structure. Students explore and debate contemporary social issues to enable them to challenge assumptions and to question their everyday understanding of social phenomena.
Our students develop their own sociological awareness through active engagement with the contemporary social world. They develop the ability to think sociologically in relation to their experience of the social world, so they can play a positive, active, and informed role in society.
