Years 7, 8 and 9
Our students gain experience through practical work on instruments and using their voice alongside aural learning, integrating listening with practical music making, improvising and composing. Students listen to different genres of music and have an opportunity to perform as a soloist or as part of a group.
Years 10 and 11
The music industry is a vibrant, exciting and highly competitive industry that is constantly evolving and offers many different and exciting new work opportunities.
The Technical Award gives learners the opportunity to develop sector-specific applied knowledge and skills through realistic vocational contexts. The main focus is on four areas of equal importance. These are:
- key skills to develop a student’s aptitude in music, such as responding to a musical brief using musical skills and techniques
processes that underpin effective ways of working in the music sector, such as the development of musical ideas, and using skills and techniques for rehearsal, creation, production and performance to respond to a music brief. - attitudes that are considered most important in the music sector, including personal management and communication
- knowledge that underpins effective use of skills, processes and attitudes in the sector, such as musical skills and styles.
Learners are required to complete and achieve all three components in the
Qualification. These are:
- Exploring music products and styles (30% of final grade).
- Music skills development (30% of final grade).
- Responding to a music brief (40% of final grade).
This course provides a foundation for students wishing to study music in Years 12 and 13.
