Geography

Our Geography Department encourages interest and a sense of wonder about the world, helping students to make sense of the complex and dynamically changing world around them.

Geography students learn about the world and how their individual landscapes are formed. They study how people interact with their environment and how a diverse range of economies, and societies are interconnected.

Teachers encourage questioning, investigation and critical thinking about issues affecting the world and people’s lives, both now and in the future. They inspire pupils to become global citizens by exploring their own place in the world through their values and their responsibilities to other people, the environment and the sustainability of the planet.

Year 7, 8 and 9 students

In geography at Key Stage 3 students consolidate and extend their knowledge of the world’s major countries and their physical and human features. They learn how geographical processes interact to create distinctive human and physical landscapes that change over time.

Students are taught:

  • Locational knowledge
  • Place knowledge
  • Human and physical geography
  • Geographical skills and fieldwork

Year 10 and 11 students

Studies include a combination of core and optional topics delivered over a three year course that follows the EDUQAS GCSE Geography A qualification. Students gain the ability to think ‘like a geographer’ and develop four key skills: the ability to think creatively by posing questions; collecting and recording appropriate evidence, analyse evidence; apply geographical knowledge, understanding and skills to real world contexts.
