KINGSMEADOW SIXTH FORM
AN EXCITING FUTURE

I am writing to tell you about exciting developments for Kingsmeadow School concerning the future of our sixth form and to ask for your views.

Kingsmeadow is a flourishing Local Authority maintained school. In the summer of 2019 the school was recognised for all the hard work put in by the local and school community with an Ofsted rating of Good following a full inspection.  This has seen the school attract many new students, with full year groups and oversubscription in Yr 7 for this coming September. It is now time for us to make sure we have our own secure sixth form provision.

The need for a local sixth form was identified by our community over 10 years ago, and ever since then our sixth form has been delivered by Kingsmeadow specialist staff in partnership with registered providers.  This arrangement has proved successful and has long supported Kingsmeadow students through to University, apprenticeships and outstanding grades to access both the local and national job markets.  We are very proud of our success.

As part of our next stage of development we propose now to change the school from 11-16 to an 11-18 school and to provide the sixth form directly ourselves. I feel strongly that it is the right thing for our students and their families.

We plan  to apply for redesignation as an 11-18 school from September 2020.  This will mean no practical difference for our students and local community.  Sixth form provision is secure for all current Yr 12 students and all Yr 11 students who are planning to enter sixth form.  We will continue to offer high quality provision with current Yr 12 students moving smoothly into Yr 13 and Yr 11 students joining our Yr12 from September 2020.  Financial planning would not be affected by the change to an 11-18 school, as the school has successfully operated with a sixth form provision for some time now and current budget planning incorporates a full sixth form offer.
