Year 7 REAL Project 2 - Can Kindness Change The World? - January 2020

Mrs Ross organised the immersion event for this project which took the form of a Diversity Day in January in which our Year 7 students were treated to inspiring talks from Sister Josepha Mathews, a Sister of Mercy and Chaplain at St Anthony’s School in Sunderland, Cloud Singh from The Northeast Sikh service, Mariam and Amer from the Islamic Diversity centre, Kate Hinton from the Northeast Humanists Society and Stephen Newman, who is a member of Amnesty International.

The idea behind the event was to immerse the students into an enquiry of whether kindness is an important element of faith and beliefs by gaining an insight into different religious and non-religious groups and an understanding of how these groups  promote tolerance and kindness through their own faiths and beliefs.

Our students were challenged to think about questions they would like to ask our visitors in order to gain as much from their visit as possible. All of our visitors gave extremely positive feedback about our ‘respectful and curious students.’
