A phenomenal, flawless performance saw Battalion reach 3rd place at a recent Battle of the Bands competition. The event took place at Royal Grammar School in Jesmond and the Kingsmeadow band Battalion wowed the audience with their performance of Highway Star and The Trooper. The band, made up of Tommy Atkinson (guitar), Daniel Brown (drums) and Bradley Green (bass) not only took home a trophy but £100 of J. G. Windows vouchers to spend on band equipment.
The boys, all aspiring professional musicians gave a brilliant display technical ability and great musicianship and were pipped at the post by RGS (1st) and Duchess High School, Alnwick (2nd).
All of the band members have recently also achieved Distinction or Distinction* in their BTEC Music course.
Miss Tindall, their Music teacher said "I'm so proud to have watched these boys grow from students who had never touched an instrument before to the musicians they are today. They are a shining example of why music and the arts should be accessible to everyone as well as what you can achieve when you take up that opportunity and practice, practice, practice! These students took up an instrument in years 8 and 9 and have just made phenomenal progress. They've absolutely put themselves and the school on the map and I can't wait to see what they do next."
