Hungary for lunch
Europe Day was celebrated at Kingsmeadow on the 14th May this year. We received a small grant to cover the cost of ingredients for dishes from around the European Union. A group of Year 9 students had created a recipe book, containing a recipe from each member state, which they had passed to the catering staff.
We have to be extremely grateful to the catering staff for what we were about to receive as they went out of their way to source the ingredients and prepare dishes from four of the recipes in the students’ cookbook.
Free tasters were then on offer for the Italian soup, cakes from Denmark and Holland, and the piece de la resistance: Goulash. I arrived five minutes after the start of lunch and found the cakes all gone, and the Goulash supply just about exhausted. Luckily, I’d been kept a portion of the dish and it was delicious. All students I spoke to confirmed that the catering staff had done a fantastic job and thoroughly enjoyed the alternative cuisine.
A roaring success.
