Grand CD Launch-by A Level Business Team
Our famous Steel Band once again wowed members of the local community with their skills on the Trinidian steel pans at a prestigious, CD launch evening on Thursday 22nd October, at Kingsmeadow School. The success of their second album has certainly been given an excellent head start as the concert ensured the CD was a real ‘sell out’.
The success of the event wasn’t all down to the Steel Band, or the fabulous gymnasts and street dancers who performed at the concert; it was all down to our fantastic Year 13 A level business team. With a little bit of guidance and steering from myself and Mr Nesbitt at the start, our 14 highly talented students organised and managed a first class event. The students really showed they are young adults ready to go out and find their place in the world, by displaying unwavered professionalism, teamwork, organisation, enthusiasm and dedication throughout. It was such skills, along with a bit of ‘natural talent’, that allowed our school to shine once more.
The profits made from the event contributed to the Steel Band’s trip to Disneyland Paris in October half term, where they performed on the Fantasy Festival Stage. The event was by no means an easy task. Under very tight time restrictions, the team had to do everything from advertising, PR and promotion, to organising the refreshments, backdrops, raffle prizes, programmes, sound, lighting and risk assessments. But effective team work and meticulous planning allowed them to pull it off.
Business teacher Miss Duncan said “All the students have worked really hard on this project. Every morning, noon and night, particularly within the last week leading up to the event, you can tell that it’s all they’ve thought about. And what a fantastic way to end the half term - now we all deserve a nice, relaxing week off!”
With both the success of the CD launch and last year’s Question Time event, our next team sure have a hard act to follow!
