Full Service Extended School

ngsmeadow was designated as Gateshead’s only Full Service Extended School in 2003.
An extended school is one that provides a range of services and activities beyond the school day, to help with the needs of its students, their families and the wider community. An extended school also recognises that to achieve its goals it needs to work in partnership with other agencies and the local community.
Kingsmeadow has very strong links with the local community, and together we are able to deliver the 5 areas of an extended school:
- Quality Childcare
- Parent Support and Family Learning
- A varied menu of activities for children and young people
- Community access including adult learning
- Swift and easy access to specialist services.
Many of our extended services are run from our Lifelong Learning Centre, which also houses:
- Dunston Children’s Centre
- Dunston Pre-School
- Beehive Out of School Club.
Our new school building is also available for hire to community groups, and the sports facilities are particularly popular with local sporting organisations. We are the only venue outside of Durham Cricket Club with extensive indoor Cricketing facilities.
Our extended school facilities are further enhanced by the community element of our Business and Enterprise Specialism. Support, advice and training on Enterprise and ICT are currently offered to local businesses, social enterprises, schools and community organisations.
We are committed to further developing our status as a Full Service Community School, and to becoming an integral and valued part of the community.
