Admission Policy

We, Gateshead Local Authority (LA), allocate places at Community Secondary schools in Gateshead using our Community Secondary schools admissions policy. We consult the Governing Body about this policy and arrange the admissions to the school using our co-ordinated admission scheme. We use this policy and a different “In Year” scheme when deciding the allocation of places for In Year transfer admissions to the school.

The admission policy is as follows:

  • Secondary schools will normally admit pupils between the ages of 11 and 16, or 11 and 19, depending upon the school.
  • We normally accept pupils up to the school’s agreed planned admission number for the year.
  • We will normally admit pupils who have been referred for placement at a particular school through the LA placement panel who determine some admissions using the In Year Fair Access protocol.
