Science

The science department currently consists of seven full time well qualified subject specialists and is supported by a full time laboratory technician.  In April 2007 the department moved into brand new facilities in phase one of our new building.

The department has a suite of six laboratories, an ICT suite and two preparation rooms.

In years 7, 8 and 9 pupils are taught in ability groups.  All Key Stage 3 students follow the National Curriculum.  Many key stage 3 pupils are members of the STEMNET Science and Engineering club.  The club meets weekly to work on many projects; club members are currently building their own remote controlled cars.

In years 10 and 11 students are taught in ability sets and follow either the GCSE or BTEC Applied Science programme of study.  Science is a popular subject with pupils at Kingsmeadow and opportunities are taken wherever possible for pupils to experience science outside of school e.g. year ten BTEC students visit St Mary’s island each year.

Post 16 provision provides the students with the opportunity to continue science through the BTEC Applied Science (Forensics) which includes both fundamental science units and forensic science units.
