MFL
The Modern Foreign Languages department consists of 2 full time well qualified specialist teachers who deliver lessons across the whole of Key Stage 3 and 4.
Both of the department classrooms have interactive whiteboards, projectors and wireless technology.
In Key Stage 3 all pupils have 2 lessons of Spanish per week, in which they study mainly from the Listos scheme of work, which follows the new curriculum. They are assessed formally once every half term in all four skill areas.
In Key Stage 4 pupils study Spanish for 2 lessons per week in Year 10 and 3 per week in Year 11. Again the main course book is Listos, but there are various other resources used, such as GCSE Bitesize and Sam Learning. The department will also be using Mira Activeteach from September 2009, which consists of interactive materials and Podcasts which students can download to use at home.
The department has since 2003 run an extremely successful trip to Catalunya in Spain on an annual basis. It has proved to be very popular with our pupils, and they get a lot out of the trip, both culturally as well as educationally.
From September 2009 the MFL department will be starting a new French Club for Key Stage 3 pupils in the hopes of eventually bringing back a second foreign language to our curriculum.
