The department currently consists of 5 full and 2 part time well qualified subject specialists and is supported by the equivalent of one full time Higher Level Teaching Assistant. In April 2007 the department moved into brand new facilities in phase one of our new building.
The department has a suite of six classrooms which have all been fitted with Interactive White boards and furnished to a high specification. There is a departmental resource/work area.
In years 7 and 8 students are taught in mixed ability groups. In year 9 students are allocated into two comparable ability bands, each band is divided into sets. Throughout KS3 students follow the National Curriculum.
In years 10 and 11 students are taught in ability sets. The department follow AQA syllabus A English and English Literature, students are entered for the Language examination in November of year 11. A smaller group of students follow in the AQA media studies syllabus instead of English Literature.
