E-safety at Kingsmeadow
The internet is playing an ever increasing role within the lives of young people. We all know that it is an excellent resource that opens up so many educational and social opportunities, giving our children access to, quite literally, a world of information and experiences.
Whether on a computer at school, a laptop at home, a games console or mobile phone, children and young people are increasingly accessing the internet whenever they can and wherever they are.
As a school we take the safeguarding of our students very seriously. Therefore as part of the National E-safety strategy we deliver our own ‘E-safety’ programme. This is aimed at raising awareness of the dangers and risks students face when using the internet.
All students need to be aware of the SMART rules
Safe
Keep safe by being careful not to give out personal information such as your name, e-mail, phone number, home address or school name — to people you don't trust online.
Meeting
Meeting someone you have only been in touch with online can be dangerous. Only do so with your parents or carers.
Accepting
Accepting e-mails, IM messages, or opening files, pictures or texts from people you don't know or trust can lead to problems — they may contain viruses or nasty messages.
Reliable
Someone online might be lying about who they are, and information you find on the internet may not be reliable.
Tell
Tell your parent, carer or a trusted adult if someone or something makes you feel uncomfortable or worried. You can find further information and can report online abuse to the police at:
